Having inherited a wide spread of disparate mainframes at over 50 UK sites, British Telecommunications Plc has decided its time to rationalise and consolidate computing at a handful of UK sites over the next five years. The first strategic centres will be at existing Derby and Exeter sites and a new one will be built in South Lancashire; six more are planned to follow those.
