British Telecommunications Plc has announced that it will actively help companies to effect the programming equipment changes required as a result of the switch to the new 071- and 081- London codes set for May 6: from next Monday, April 2, complex work such as the reprogramming of PABXs for abbreviated dialling, auto-dialling and route optimisation can be carried out according to the new numbers, but British Telecom says the new codes should not be used for general phone calls before the official switch in May; in the meantime, however, it is offering to reprogram, free of charge, any equipment rented from, maintained by, or subject to the first year warranty of British Telecom; any equipment that cannot be converted by the customer, and wherever the change is requested before June 30, 1990.
