By CBR Staff Writer

British Telecommunications Plc is to expand its Public Data Network: the PSS X28 Dial service will be extended in anticipation of usage throughout the rest of 1988 and 1989 and a total of nine new X28 service access locations will be sited in Guildford, Chelmsford, Gloucester, Stafford, Oxford, Southampton, Leicester, Plymouth and Swindon; Telecom claims that the additions will increase local call access for users outside London by over 25% – but Public Data Network traffic is growing at over 125% per annum; the Cardway services offered over X28 for credit card authorisation data capture are growing particularly fast, and are expected to generate over 12m calls in super-busy December 1988 alone.
