British Telecommunications Plc’s involvement in the National Westminster Bank Plc’s Mondex electronic cash scheme (CI No 2,316), could provide users with a host of other services, it has said. The company is badging a smart phone, produced by an unnamed source, which it says could be used with the Mondex system to pay utility bills, as part of a pay to view system for television programmes or for any other application requiring electronic funds transfer that you could think of. Although no firm plans have been made for any such applications, BT said the phone would look much like the AT&T Co Smartphone, with a screen measuring an estimated 3 by 5.
