BRITISH TELECOM PLANS 60-OUTLET RETAIL CHAIN

By CBR Staff Writer

British Telecom has decided to go ahead with its high profile – but high risk – chain of UK high street retail stores, and plans to build the chain to 60 stores in prime sites over the next three years. The stores will stock the full line of Telecom telephones, answering machines and ancillary communications products, and will include a business centre for selling small switches, telex and facsimile machines, cellular phones and radio pagers to small business customers. Telecom has no present plans to sell microcomputers in its stores.
