BRITISH TELECOM BUYS 64% OF ALBERT SHARP’s SHARELINK

British Telecom Plc has bought 64% of Birmingham stockbroker Albert E Sharp’s enterprising ShareLink no-frills telephone share dealing service, and has applied to become a member of the Securities Association. Sharp will retain 34% of the seven-days a-week service, founder David Jones holds 4%. ShareLink now employs some 80 people, and has an active client list of over 8,000 private investors. Terms of the purchase have not been disclosed.
