The total number of chargeable person-to-person text messages sent across the four UK GSM network operators last month was 1.09 billion, compared to only 580 million sent this time last year.

Figures show a steady growth in UK texting, which culminated in the landmark billion jackpot celebration for August and continues to rise.

Britons now send 36 million texts each day – over double those sent last year – with an annual total so far of 8.5 billion.
