The British Railways Board may have a dismal record on getting trains to their destinations on time and with room for all those that want to ride, but it’s determined to do better in telecommunications – and wants the lot: its BR Telecommunications subsidiary has set up a new private company, BRT Ltd, which has applied for licences to offer public switched telephone services, value-added network services, virtual private networks, digital private networks and mobile radio services. It has not named any partners but is talking with several.
