UK prime minister Tony Blair has finally decided it is time to sit up and take notice of the problems posed by Year 2000 compliance. Blair has arranged a series of meetings and initiatives to be carried out in the UK and the European Union throughout the year, declaring 1998 as a year of action against the bug. The prime minister is concerned that the seriousness of the problem is not being fully appreciated.
