BRITISH OLIVETTI TO LAUNCH READ-WRITE SMART CARD

By CBR Staff Writer

With six months to go before the introduction of a UK national electronic point of sale funds transfer network, British Olivetti has announced that it will be launching a read-write Smart Card for the retail industry at the EPOS/EFTPOS ’88 exhibition, due to be held from 13 to 16 September: Olivetti claims that its system, based on the CP8 card developed by Groupe Bull, can be used to store 8Kb of retail transaction information, and offers the retailer significant savings and increased security benefits over current transaction methods; the company will also be demonstrating a range of retail software developed specifically for the petrol service station forecourt.
