France’s National Centre for Telecommunications Research has announced that British Telecommunications Plc and France Telecom have established the first experimental videoconferencing link between the two countries using the Asynchronous Mode Transfer pilot network set up by 18 European operators in April. The connection will be used for experiments testing interoperability and performance on the network. Under the pilot, H.320-based videoconferencing terminals in British Telecom labs at Martlesham Heath and at the National Centre for Telecommunications Research in Lannion, communicate via Asynchronous Mode switches in London, Lannion and Paris, running at between 34Mbps and 155Mbps.
