British Aerospace Plc is expanding its telecommunications interests, having been invited by Motorola Inc to participate in the project to set up Iridium, a worldwide mobile telephone system that will use 77 small satellites. Lockheed Missiles & Space Co has already been brought in to build the satellites and share the risk, but Motorola wants British Aerospace to participate in the design of the system.
