The absurdity of the pork barrel politics of Brussels is underlined yeat again by the fact that the UK should be the only country to vote against pouring over $600m into the development of the D2-MAC analogue High Definition Television system when even Robert Maxell’s one-eyed Albanian knows instinctively that the future of television is digital and that a new analogue standard would be a ghastly white elephant, condemning Europe to decades of third class television reception and cutting it off from all the spin-offs and add-ons that digital television receivers will bring; needless to say, instead of being grateful to the British for rescuing them from their folly, the other 11 member countries are furious.
