IT industry skills body e-Skills UK has revealed that around 1.1 million Britons or 4% of the total UK workforce are employed in the IT industry.
The number of UK workers in the IT industry reached a record high in a study carried out by e-Skills between October and December 2010.
e-Skills UK chief executive Karen Price said, "Despite difficult economic conditions, the IT sector continues to make a major contribution to employment growth in the UK."
However, the study came with a warning that there are not enough people with IT skills to meet the demand.
The study also found that the averagge IT salary increased slightly to £38,500, compared with the average UK salary of just £28,000 in the last quarter of 2010, according to a report by Computing.
It is believed that some jobs are a result of the vast reserves of cash that several US companies hold abroad.
Earlier this month, technology giant Oracle announced plans to hire up to 1,700 new workers across Europe, reversing the job losses it announced after its takeover of Sun Microsystems.
IT companies Logica and Capgemini are also planning to increase their staff in Europe.
