Ridgefield, Connecticut-based Bristol Technology Inc says the latest version of its Wind/U cross-platform development software will support the Microsoft Corp ActiveX Template Library and the OpenGL graphics libraries. The privately held company says Wind/U 4.1 enables developers to write their applications on Windows 95 or Windows NT and then deploy them on a range of platforms including Windows, Unix, OpenVMS and OS/390. The company says dialogue box creation has been made two to five times faster, working on the basis that the larger the dialogues in the applications, the more significant the gain will be. In March the company launched version 4.0 of the software, bringing with it support for internet features such as Microsoft’s WinInet programming interfaces and ActiveX (CI No 3,120). With this new release, Bristol Technology has extended Wind/U’s support for the internet and server applications with the adoption of extended service application programming interfaces, and greater thread support including WinSock for use in multithreaded applications and extension to WinInet APIs on Solaris, HP-UX and AIX platforms. Richard Lock, the company’s European director says they are currently working on a release supporting Microsoft’s Distributed Component Object Model which is likely to be released in the next three to four months. Lock said the company’s revenues are increasing every quarter and he is confident that this trend will continue. Wind/U 4.1 runs on SunOS and Solaris, HP-UX, Digital Unix, OpenVMS, AIX and IRIX workstations and will be available across the world at the end of the month with a price tag of $12,000.
