By CBR Staff Writer

New application service provider Breakaway Solutions Inc has won the contract from Sun Microsystems Inc to host and distribute SunÆs newly acquired StarOffice suite of office productivity tools. Users can now download the software free of charge from through Breakaway data centers in the US and Europe. A Far East data center is also planned.

Breakaway uses Sun-Solaris-based delivery platforms and the NetDynamics Java Application Server for its ASP services. It will host and distribute StarOffice from data centers in Boston and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Breakaway, which raised $42m from the initial public offering earlier this month, changed its name from the Counsell Group at the end of last year. It also has an ASP hosting deal with front office software house Clarify Inc.
