Under Brazil’s liberalised computer industry regime, due to come into force on October 29 1992, the ban on imports of microcomputers and facsimile machines will be lifted, and foreign companies will be able to manufacture anything they want in Brazil, provided they own no more than 49% of the voting shares in the Brazilian company doing the manufacture, and invest 5% of turnover on research and development.
