BRAZIL TO ALLOW IMPORTS OF THE 3.3 RELEASE OF MICROSOFT’S MS-DOS

In an unconvincing sop to an outraged US administration, Brazil has decided to allow imports of the 3.3 release of Microsoft Corp’s MS-DOS while maintaining its bar on 3.2 and earlier releases for which an acceptable local alternative exists: the US is due to decide on $105m pf punitive tariffs over the issue this month, and reports that an unauthorised clone of an Apple machine is to be licensed for manufacture make the demand for sanctions likely to prove irresistible.
