BRAZIL IMPOSES IMPORT DUTIES ON FOREIGN SOFTWARE

Brazil’s Senate has passed a bill to confirm copyright protection on domestic and foreign software, but as the bill also imposes import duties of up to 200% on foreign software that is functionally equivalent to locally-developed software, it is unlikely to do much to mollify US critics of the country’s informatics policy: the bill now goes to the Chamber of Deputies.
