Boundless Corp, the terminal and thin client company is to acquire privately held Windows CE access application developer River Run Software Group. Boundless announced its intention to pursue the Windows terminal market, focusing specifically on the CE space earlier this year (CI No 3,401). The Hauppaugue, New York company will get its hands on River Run’s remote enterprise access applications, designed for use by mobile users, and will launch itself in to the hand and palm held PC device market. Boundless’ vice president of global marketing, Mike Stebel said the company is looking to expand our competence and business in software. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but it is expected to close by August following the standard approval process. Stebel hopes the purchase will enable it to significantly boost its revenues, but declined to reveal any further details. Boundless has suffered recently from hefty restructuring charges and shaky financial results (CI No 3,279). Stebel says the company is no longer interested in the originally defined network computer and says the devices are little more than consumer set top boxes. It dabbled with Java for a while and was poised to capture the Java-based computer device market, which has yet to materialize. But the company hasn’t turned its back on Java altogether and says it will be ready once the market has matured. When the acquisition is complete, River Run’s management team will stay intact and the company will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Boundless from its offices in Greenwich, Connecticut. River Run employs around 100 staff, most of whom are developers based at the company’s development center in India. The acquisition, according to Boundless, is the first in a series of purchases it wants to make to boost its presence and revenues in the terminal CE-based space. The company has employed a specialized team to single-out companies to buy. Stebel said: We are looking for money making software company’s that are not start-ups.
