Borland International Inc turned in its third profitable quarter in a row since its restructuring, but revenues were below the company’s expectations. Chief executive Gary Wetsel cited the failure to close some Interbase server deals as one reason for lower revenues. The other was the slower than expected take-up of Microsoft Corp Windows95 among corporate users which hit its Paradox 7.0 database package. Wetsel said users were delaying the decision whether to buy Windows95 or wait for the Windows95 front end on Windows NT. Revenues fell 1.8% to $47.3m in the third quarter. Wetsel said the company would be taking on between 20 and 50 people this quarter, which also includes the launch of Delphi 2.0 and a new version of its C++ compiler.
