Borland International Inc is going to have to take a very big hit in connection with its acquisition of Ashton-Tate Corp: it says that it will be taking a charge totalling $80m, $25m from elimination of duplicate facilities, $17m each for redundancy payments and for write-off of duplicate and repetitive capitalised product development costs, $13m for cancellation of contract obligations, and plant and equipment write-offs of $3m, and $5m for sundry other one-off costs.
