Borland International Inc, Scotts Valley, California, claims that its Database Engine 2.0 for Windows is the first stand-alone Windows database engine for client-server application development. The Borland Database Engine 2.0 for Windows is available immediately on CD-ROM for $400 for unlimited run-time distribution and as an upgrade for users of Paradox Engine v1.X or above for $150. Spawned from Borland’s integration of its first Windows products, Database Engine enables transparent data access among Paradox, dBase and text files plus database functionality. Remote data communications and database management tools have also been added. It comprises an integrated database application programming interface of over 150 functions and advanced data integration services including linked cursors; bi-directional scrollable cursors; in-memory tables; Binary Large Object cache; debugging services; Structured Query Language support; Query-by-Example support; and support for access to Open Database Connectivity data sources. Native SQL access extends the database range to include Oracle, Microsoft/Sybase SQL Server, Informix and Borland’s InterBase data. It can be accessed from C, C++ and Pascal programs and any language capable of making calls to Microsoft Windows Dynamic Link Libraries
