Late arrival to the online book marketplace, Borders.com began full-scale operation on Friday May 9, as we predicted last week (CI No 3,404). The new site claims to have ten million titles in stock, along with search facilities and discounts to tempt browsers. But the launch by the Borders group, an Ann Arbor, Michigan-based company, trails years behind similar initiatives from Barnes & Noble Inc (in 1997) and Amazon.com (1995).
