Novell is the latest software company to win US Government approval to export 128 bit encryption in its products. Novell won the license for its BorderManager Virtual Private Network (VPN), ahead of the relaxation of US crypto export controls signed into law last week that will take effect over the next few months. Novell says it was one of nine technology companies that petitioned the US Commerce Department to approve private door- bell encryption products for export. Ascend, Bay, Cisco, 3Com, HP, Network Associates, Red Creek Communications and Sun also signed the petition, but Novell says it will be among the first to export a product under the new controls. The BorderManager license covers 40 countries, including all the usual suspects: Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, and most of Europe; plus a few surprises: Antigua, Ecuador, Kenya, Trinidad-Tobago and Uruguay.
