Boole & Babbage Inc, San Jose, California, is offering the first fruits of its Oslo-based Sysnet Corp acquisition as a set of Unix administration and management tools called Ensign. Boole & Babbage claims Ensign consolidates all of an administrator’s everyday tasks into one tool set. Ensign includes a multi-user central manager, now in beta versions, an alarm manager that is already available and an enhanced version of the existing single-user local manager. Ensign uses software agents on the managed systems to retrieve status data. The firm claims Ensign can be installed in an hour and requires no additional framework to function. Ensign supports HP-UX, SunOS, Solaris, AIX and Santa Cruz Operation Inc Unix versions.
