Boole & Babbage Inc, San Jose is to acquire MAXM Systems Corp, privately-held $20m-a-year McLean, Virginia supplier of event management software for distributed systems. Under the agreement, Boole will issue up to 1.19 million shares for MAXM, putting a current value of nearly $25m on it. A majority of MAXM’s shareholders have agreed to vote for the acquisition, and Boole & Babbage expects to take a one-time charge for the acquisition but does not know how big the hit will be.
