Also fishing in the pool of former IBM Corp employees is Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Bolt Beranek & Newman Inc, the company that built the Arpanet, forerunner of today’s Internet, and has a much higher reputation for inventing and developing things than it has for making money out of them: Bolt, Beranek has named George Conrades president and chief executive, succeeding Stephen Levy, who will remain chairman; a 30-year IBM vet, Conrades had been senior vice-president and general manager of IBM United States, group executive for Midrange Systems and for Personal Systems, and as one time was seen as a possible contender for the top job; since he retired from IBM, he has been working with a number of emerging high technology companies to improve their management, marketing and customer relationships.
