BOCA RESEARCH Q1 WORSE THAN EXPECTED

By CBR Staff Writer

Boca Research Inc, Boca Raton, Florida-based data communications and videoconferencing specialists, reported a first-quarter net loss of $3.3m on revenue down 58% at $18.8m, compared to net income of $2.6m, or $0.29 per share, a year ago. The loss, equivalent to $0.38 per share, was even worse than Wall Street expectations of a loss of $0.27. The company blames a host of factors for the poor results, including the transition of its modem business to 56kbps technology, the selloff of older generation products at discounted prices and aggressive competition in the retail market.
