Instead of competing with newcomers like Apple and Google in the auto industry, German automaker BMW is reportedly open to working with the Silicon Valley giants.

Previously, it was reported that the automaker was in talks with Apple for the creation of a self-driving vehicle under its own brand.

Reuters cited Board member Oliver Zipse as saying: "We live in a world of partnerships.

"We hold regular talks with companies from the telecommunications and IT industry, including Apple, about vehicle connectivity topics, BMW Connected Drive.

"Car development and production are not the subject of these talks."

BMW has already ventured into the next generation technology with the 2016 7-Series, which has a new range of features like gesture and touchscreen controls dubbed iDrive and 3D sensor.

Some of the applications can be even controlled through smartphones and smartwatches.

However, Google has not only developed the next generation car but it has also started testing the vehicles on the roads of California.
