BMC Software also announced that it completed joint testing with Oracle, the largest provider of software for e-business, to validate compatibility with Oracle9i Database.

Earlier this month BMC Software announced with Oracle that both companies are extending their relationship to leverage each other’s technology to enable comprehensive, end-to-end systems management solutions to support e-business. BMC Software’s work with Oracle further strengthens BMC Software’s database management offerings and supports BMC Software’s infrastructure management initiatives to assure business availability.

BMC Software testing included participation in the Real Application Cluster (RAC) testing program for Oracle9i. Real Application Clusters, which debut in Oracle9i, give customers the ability to run the Oracle 9i Database across many separate machines that have been clustered together to provide a single view of the entire database. This ability, coupled with Oracle9i’s support of extremely scalable hardware platforms, makes Oracle9i one of the most scalable databases in the world.

BMC Software’s participation in the Oracle9i Real Application Cluster testing exemplifies their commitment to developing reliable solutions for the database market, said Doug Kennedy, vice president, Global Partnerships for Oracle. We are pleased to have BMC Software support a product that gives customers unlimited scalability, total availability and integrated systems management.

BMC Software customers using Oracle’s database technology can leverage BMC Software’s performance management and space management solutions to manage the service level expectations of all the different components that make up the application. BMC Software’s advanced database management technology retrieves application-specific metrics and advises the customer on utilization techniques to maximize their Oracle9i investment. The end result is higher availability of the application and a consistent process for managing service levels.

BMC Software is committed to supporting the high availability of business-critical applications for customers running on Oracle® solutions, including Oracle9i, said Doug Pushard, general manager of the Distributed Data Management business unit for BMC Software. BMC Software and Oracle recognize that 24 X 365 availability and self-management capabilities are key areas of concern for our customers’ business. These areas directly affect the availability of the business applications, which can be impacted by planned and unplanned maintenance or higher than expected transaction volumes.
