Internal growth at BMC Software Corp was reckoned to be in the region of 30% in its first quarter with the rest made up by its BGS Systems Inc acquisition (CI No 3,339). The company reported first quarter net income of $58.6m compared with $10.5m last time on revenue up 42% at $225.6m over $158.4m. Morgan Stanley Dean Witter says BMC’s Patrol application management software should get a lift in the second half of the year after IBM Corp ships its G5 mainframes. BMC expects mainframe MIPS shipments to grow to grow by around 25% over the year. BMC license revenue was up 49% in the quarter – open systems license revenues were up 115% – while total mainframe licenses were up 35%.
