Bletchley, Buckinghamshire-based Blue Mountain Imports Ltd, purveyors of cheap modems to the many, has turned its attention to the voice processing market. The company has just announced The Complete Communicator, a UKP350 combined facsimile, modem and voice messaging board in the form of a standard three-quarter length computer board. The company claims that the voice mail module will answer a voice call and automatically re-route it to one of 999 mail boxes that can be set up for individuals or groups, each of which can have its own personalised greeting. Messages can be reclaimed by ringing the board’s phone or alternatively it can redirect messages to specified extensions. Also, the board can distinguish between voice and fax calls and there is a port for interfacing with desktop scanners. The last function is a fairly basic modem which supports speeds of up to V22bis (2,400bps) and the peculiar combination of V42 error correction and MNP5 compression. The board is produced by San Jose California-based Complete PC Inc and has been shipping in the US for about three years, during which time the price dropped considerably. The original price was the equivalent of UKP1,000, according to Blue Mountain. As is an importer’s wont, the company has jumped the gun on the nod from the British Approvals Board for Telecommunications, which is not expected before the autumn.
