Blade Network Technologies has unveiled RackSwitch G8264, a new single-chip 40 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) top-of-rack switch that delivers more than one terabit of low-latency throughput to the data centre.

Blade said that the new switch is designed for HPC clusters, cloud computing, algorithmic trading and other I/O-intensive and virtualised workloads, and ensures low latency and consistent throughput across all port combinations.

The new RackSwitch G8264 offers single-chip switch fabric to operate with low latency, and consistent bi-directional throughput, and includes 48 SFP+ ports for 10GbE or 1GbE operation and four QSFP+ ports for 40GbE uplinks or 10GbE use via a breakout cable for a total of 64 10GbE ports.

In addition, the G8264 switch also features VMready 3.0 with virtual vision to secure and automate virtual machine migrations, new data centre networking, and congestion prevention.

The new switch also provides full interoperability with multivendor network environments that support the IEEE802.3ba 40/100 Gigabit Ethernet standard as validated using Ixia test equipment.

Blade Network Technologies president and CEO Vikram Mehta said the new switch is designed for today’s requirements at the data centre edge to interconnect highly utilised servers equipped with 10 Gigabit Ethernet and provide migration to 40 Gigabit upstream networks.
