UPDATED: BlackBerry services down across EMEA – again

Users report BBM and BIS both out of action

By Steve Evans

Just hours after restoring services following a 20-hour outage, reports are emerging that BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) and BlackBerry Internet Services (BIS) are again out of action.

Twitter is once again awash with irate users claiming services are unavailable. "Blackberry BIS is down AGAIN. What a complete shambles, and its affecting BBM, Facebook, and twitter feeds," said one.

"Blackberry emails for the second consecutive day in a row now banjaxed. Appalling state of affairs. #blackberrybrokenagain," said another.

Some users reported that BIS and BBM are down when connected via 3G/GPRS but working via Wi-Fi.

RIM has not yet responded to these latest reports but mobile operator O2 said on its Twitter feed: "BlackBerry know about an issue with their network and are working hard to resolve it."

These developments come just hours after RIM restored services following an EMEA-wide outage that latest for nearly 20 hours. The company has so far given no official explanation why its services crashed, but reports suggested that issues in its Slough data centre were to blame.

UPDATE: RIM has now confirmed its services are again disrupted. "Some users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, India, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina are experiencing messaging and browsing delays. We are working to restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused," the firm said in a statement.
