BlackBerry and NantHealth launch cancer genome browser

Secure cancer genome browser can be accessed through BlackBerry Passport smartphone.

By CBR Staff Writer

The browser on the BlackBerry Passport will enable deep and interactive reporting on genomics data for physicians.

It is expected to give physicians a tool to view individual genetic alternations in diseases and allows the doctors to highlight the right treatment options.

Blackberry has advanced security and privacy features which will help protect patient privacy, with the browser being fully encrypted which will help the doctors to access patient data in a secure manner, whenever it becomes available.

The Canadian smartphone maker previously brought some stake in NantHealth to expand its reach into a niche sector like healthcare.

Reuters reported NantHealth chief executive Patrick Soon-Shiong as saying: "Our partnership with BlackBerry has really been able to create a scalable super-computer in the palm of the hands of the doctor."

Passport smartphone features a wider screen which is also expected to provide a better view of X-rays, scans and documents.

The introduction of the new browser and focus on healthcare could be BlackBerry’s course of action to improve its sales after it failed to expand into the consumer market, reported Utah People’s Post.
