Waltham, Massachusetts-based Black Duck was as formed at the end of 2003 in response to concerns about the integrity of open source code. The company’s protexIP tool can detect proprietary and open source code users’ solution stacks and tell users the potential intellectual property risks they face.

The deal with Paris, France-based Atos Origin sees the services firm offering protexIP with its consulting, systems integration and application management services. Atos Origin will also use the software to establish policies related to the installation of large software applications to ensure compliance with the associated licenses.
