BitRock, a provider of cross platform deployment tools and services, has released all of the BitNami Stacks as SUSE-based virtual appliances. The company said that BitNami users can now download ready-to-run BitNami Appliances for open source applications such as SugarCRM, Drupal, WordPress, and Alfresco. The appliances are available free of charge from the BitNami project website.

BitNami users reportedly have a choice of downloading a self-contained installer or a virtual appliance for over 30 open source application stacks. Both deployment options allow to run with freely available applications for customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise content management (ECM), blogs, wikis and bug-tracking, said company.

The company said that the BitNami application appliances showcase its new virtual appliance creation service, an extension of the Custom Stacks Service it has been offering to software vendors for the past four years. The company has reportedly developed technology to interface with SUSE Studio and generate virtual appliances from BitRock-created application stacks.

The company claimed with the new virtual appliance creation service, its clients can offer their users a choice of deployment options (native installers or virtual appliances), so that they can choose the one that meets their needs.

Daniel Lopez Ridruejo, founder and CTO of BitRock, said: Over the past several months, we have been seeing increased interest in virtual appliances from both our commercial clients and the BitNami community. We’re happy to be able to provide both groups with a choice of deployment options, so users can select the one that works best for their particular environment.
