Houston, Texas-based BindView will make use of the OEM agreement to integrate Roseville, Minnesota-based Shavlik’s HFNetChkPro patch management technology with its Vulnerability Management and Policy Compliancy products.

The integration will bring additional security threat analysis to BindView’s offerings, including patch prioritization ranking for Microsoft Windows-based servers and desktops, as well as patch deployment capabilities.

It is not clear when the patch management capabilities will be integrated into BindView’s products, although the company promises that it will be offering patch management during the first half of 2004.

The importance of patch management was highlighted last year as users were hit by high-profile worms and viruses such as the Slammer worm that could have been avoided if administrators had kept up to date with published patches.
