Commodore International Ltd is close to the end of the road. Like Atari Corp, it has been reporting mounting losses on plunging sales, but unlike Atari, its new Amiga CD32 games machine is not seen as a hot new property with which to keep backers’ hopes alive. The West Chester, Pennsylvania company warned late Friday that while it is trying to negotiate with creditors and suppliers, without additional resources and a restructuring, it may face reorganisation under a Chapter 11 filing, or liquidation. Suppliers have restricted credit and started legal action, but lenders have indicated that they may accelerate loans to the firm.
