Big Blue has gone into partnership in Sweden with German firm SAP AG to develop new software for the forestry industry, basing their joint venture in Sundsvall on the Swedish Baltic coast, a main port for exporting pulp and wood products. Project manager Hakan Nordstrand of IBM Sweden said the initial project will be software solutions for the pulp industry to be followed by similar programs for sawmills, adding that the two companies are making substantial investments in the project.
