BID GOSSIP: BRITISH TELECOM TO BID FOR AMSTRAD

By CBR Staff Writer

None of the bid gossip should be taken too seriously, unless one inclines to the wisely-held view that when unbelievable rumours are widely believed, the End (of the bull market) Is Nigh: into that category falls the suggestion that British Telecom is ready to bid for Amstrad (though if B-CAL can collapse into the arms of detested enemy British Airways, anything can happen); the excitement in Telephone Rentals shares is not likely to come to anything either, although a move by Cable & Wireless, STC or possibly Plessey is not out of the question.
