The new reporting, analysis and dashboarding technology that are included in Open Text’s Internal Controls application suite are courtesy of Hummingbird, an enterprise software firm that Open Text acquired in October for $489m.
Internal Controls, which is part of Open Text’s LiveLink enterprise content management platform, provides a centralized, enterprise-wide system to manage internal controls information.
Open Text will release the integrated BI capabilities in early 2007.
Open Text said the integration would enable customers to measure their internal corporate governance initiatives and mitigate the risk of non-compliance for regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley and Basel II.
For example, users will be able to analyze and detect patterns in financial statements to ensure accuracy and proactively alert management to potential problems with real-time reporting. The dashboarding capabilities will serve up executives with an enterprise-wide view of risks, issues, and effectiveness of corporate compliance initiatives.
The Hummingbird BI suite of server-based query and OLAP tools had languished in Hummingbird’s broad portfolio for years. The technology was originally acquired from Andyne Computing Ltd back in 1998. But over the subsequent years BI took a back seat in Hummingbird’s strategy as the company steadily refocused itself on ECM, a market that Open Text aggressively competes in.
The integration is among the first that Waterloo, Ontario-based Open Text is introducing to combine complementary ECM capabilities following its acquisition of Hummingbird.
Open Text also plans to integrate Hummingbird’s BI tools into its other compliance applications in the coming year.
Hummingbird BI has now been re-branded by Open Text as LiveLink ECM Business Intelligence by Open Text, as part of a major re-branding initiative for all of the Hummingbird Enterprise suite products.
Hummingbird also developed its own compliance and governance called Hummingbird Enterprise RM that provides standards-complaint records management capabilities. That product is now branded by Open Text as LiveLink ECM eDOCs RM.
Open Text showcased its BI integration for In Controls at its LiveLinkUp 2006 user conference in Phoenix, Arizona earlier this week.
