BEWARE: BRITISH GAS STARTS TRIALS OF REMOTE METER READING

By CBR Staff Writer

No more waiting in for the gas man to come and read the meter: British Gas Plc reports that it has started field trials on two revolutionary types of domestic gas meter, which are half the size of existing meters and can be linked to remote reading and home information systems; the two ultrasonic designs are from Siemens AG’s Oldham, Lancashire-based Siemens Measurements Ltd subsidiary and Gill Electronic R & D, an independent partnership in Lymington, Hampshire; both the versions are powered by a battery with a life-expectancy of 10 years.
