IBM Corp said at last week’s Windows & OS/2 Conference that Windows 3.1 support in OS/2 2.0 goes into beta test this month and is set for delivery later this year, while demonstrations of OS/2’s Micro Kernel technology with multiprocessor support will begin in the autumn; OS/2 pen extensions are also due later this year, with two new IBM pen applications under development TeleSketch, a package that enables workers in different offices to communicate via text and images, and ImageMail, a program for sending voice annotation and handwritten Post-It notes over electronic mail; IBM claims there are now 160 32-bit OS/2 2.0 applications now being shipped and thousands more to be released this year; the fact that Microsoft Corp’s Windows NT will support only the major Windows 3.1 applications, apparently leaving thousands of other Windows applications out in the cold, is seen as a crucial boost for OS/2.
