The BellSouth International unit of BellSouth Corp has sold its interest in Mexican cellular company Communicationes Celulares de Occidente SA de CV to Grupo Iusacell SA de CV, the cellular operator where BellSouth sibling Bell Atlantic Corp is investing $1,040m for what will eventually grow to a 42% stake; the terms of the deal were not disclosed, but BellSouth said the sale of will be recorded as a $67m gain on its earnings; Communicaciones Celulares began providing cellular telephone service throughout western Mexico in August 1990; BellSouth plans to look for other opportunities in Latin America.
