BellSouth Corp has formed an alliance with two of the Bells that are planning to merge, Pacific Telesis Group Inc and SBC Communications Inc. The aim of the alliance will be to combine long distance orders with an eye toward screwing bigger discounts out of AT&T Corp and other providers, the Wall Street Journal reported. The three Bells had explored the idea of orchestrating joint purchases even before SBC announced its plans to buy Pacific Telesis.
