Mobile telephone operator BellSouth Corp says it will cut international call charges from New Zealand by between 20% and 50% with immediate effect. The price cuts mean BellSouth mobile telephone customers would pay no more than the standard international call rates offered by Telecom Corp of New Zealand Ltd to its landline business customers. The cuts are a direct result of a multi-million dollar interconnection agreement between BellSouth and Clear Communications Inc in early August (CI No 2, 982). The two did not detail their interconnection agreement further and both denied speculation at the time of a closer working relationship or possible merger.
