BellSouth Corp, Atlanta reports that it has now acquired more than 73 million shares in Peruvian telecommunications operating company Tele 2000 SA for about $110m, giving it a stake of more than 57% in it. Tele 2000 serves more than 100,000 customers in Lima and the surrounding areas along the Pacific coast, offering paging, cable television, directories, payphone and mobile data services. It also owns and operates a fiber optic network in Lima and Callao. BellSouth had been in talks with the company for over a year.
