Bell Labs, the research arm of Lucent Technologies Inc, has been demonstrating a new wireless Asynchronous Transfer Mode local area network it has developed. The demonstration features wireless laptop computers running MPEG-2 video and Internet content in a building environment. Bell Labs has also teamed up with Sun Microsystems Inc in the Mobile Information Infrastructure project to develop and demonstrate technologies that can provide digital video and multimedia services to wireless information appliances. The Mobile Information Infrastructure project is a three-year programme, started in November 1995, and is partially funded by the US government’s Advanced Technology Program, administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. á
